Ad Coalition Set To Win

Portugal's Tight Election Race

AD Coalition Set to Win

Portugal's centre-right Democratic Alliance (AD) coalition is set to win over its Socialist opponents in parliamentary elections, an exit poll has suggested. The poll, conducted by the Catholic University, found that AD is poised to win the most votes, but that the race is too close to call.

The exit poll, which was released at 2110 CET on Sunday evening, showed AD with 38.5% of the vote, just ahead of the Socialist Party (PS) with 38%. The far-right Chega party is projected to come in third with 10.5% of the vote.

Close Finish Expected

If the exit poll results are accurate, it would be a significant victory for AD. The coalition has not been in power since 2015, and has been trailing the PS in opinion polls for much of the campaign.

However, the exit poll also suggests that the race is still very close. The margin of error for the poll is 3%, which means that the final results could be significantly different.

The official results of the election are expected to be released on Monday. It is likely that a period of political uncertainty will follow, as AD and the PS attempt to form a coalition government.

The election is being closely watched as a test of the strength of far-right parties in Europe. Chega, which is led by former television commentator André Ventura, has campaigned on an anti-immigrant and anti-establishment platform.
